Portland, OR - Head cross country coach Bryant Howard continues to add to his 2008 recruiting class with the signing of Julio Garcia to a letter of intent.
Garcia hails form Umatilla, OR where he was a 2 time State qualifier for coach Rick Wyland at Umatilla High School. A valued leader of his high school team, Julio elevated his performances in championship meets. He finished 7th in the District 5 Championships at Pendleton's McKay Park and turned in a lifetime best at the State XC Championships at Lane CC in Eugene, finishing 28th overall.
Julio is a multi-talented athlete, setting personal bests during the 2007 track season in 5 different events from the 400m to 3000m while scoring at Districts for his team in the pole vault and 4x400 relay.

"Julio has a soft spoken personality, but has a strong desire to compete," commented coach Howard. "During his visit to campus he fit in extraordinarily well, and his future teammates are already looking forward to running along side him."
