Portland, OR - On Friday, Feb. 15, the Thunderbird basketball teams will partner with Concordia's in conjunction with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) will take part in "Think Pink" week Feb. 8-17, to help raise breast cancer awareness, joining forces with over 900 women’s basketball teams around the country.

In addition, the men’s team will take part in Suits and Sneakers, a national event that is designed to raise awareness about Coaches vs. Cancer and the importance of cancer prevention and early detection.

Along with donating a portion of the gate receipts towards the two programs, Concordia will also provide drop-off areas for fan donations.

In respect of the event, the CU women’s team will warm up in pink t-shirts while the men’s coaching staff will don sneakers with their suits while working the sidelines.

The WBCA's Think Pink initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

"The WBCA is very excited to promote an initiative that touches all levels of our membership and unifies them for such a great cause," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "It has been remarkable to watch the support of this initiative grow from 120 schools last year to over 900 schools for 2008. With the help of each of our members, the women's basketball community can make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. "

The Coaches vs. Cancer program is a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches that empowers basketball coaches, their teams and communities to join the fight against cancer. Suits and Sneakers encourages coaching staffs nationwide to wear sneakers with their suits while coaching games during this weekend to remind college basketball audiences about the many ways people can reduce their risk of cancer, like eating right, exercising, making healthy lifestyle choices, and following the American Cancer Society's recommended cancer screening guidelines.
