LAGRANDE, Ore. - Raquel Morin hit a baseline three pointer with six seconds left to lift Cascade to a stunning playoff upset of #1 seeded Eastern Oregon on the road tonight.
Te Awhina Aranui scored a career high 32 points for the Thunderbirds in the victory as the T-Birds came from 17 points down in the second half.
The first half of play was a back and forth affair, though EOU led by as many as 7 and took a four point lead into the locker room. Eastern sprinted ahead quickly in the second half, and took their biggest lead of the game (17) on a Sheena Henderson free throw at the 14:10 mark.
The upstart Thunderbirds began to climb back in the game from there, taking their first lead of the game on a Morin jumper with 2:10 left to play. Moments later the Mounties' Salena Leavitt hit a leaning shot and was fouled, and Eastern surged back ahead by two as she converted the three point play.
That set up the heroics from Morin, who took an Aranui skip pass and calmly buried the clutch trey to give Cascade the unlikely upset win.
