PORTLAND, Ore. - Head Coach Jon Shaw has announced the signing of junior college star Jason Maples to a letter of intent.
Maples, a 6-2 guard, hails from Berkeley, CA and just finished his sophomore season at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, CA. Under coach Miguel Johnson, Maples avergaed 15 points per game, and was selected 1st Team All-Bay Conference and Defensive Player of the Year in both his freshman and sophomore years. He also averaged 3.77 steals per game as a freshman which was #1 in the state of California. For his accomplishments this year, Maples was voted Contra Costa College's male Athlete of the Year.
In addition, Jason was named All-Academic both years at Contra Costa, maintaining a 3.2 gpa. He will major in Business Administration at Cascade.
"Jason Maples has been an asset to the development of Contra Costa College Men's Basketball program," said coach Johnson. "Jason has set the standard for the type of student athletes we would like to have here at Contra Costa College. The two season in which Jason has played for me, I have had the opportunity to watch a young man mature as an individual and as an athlete. Jason has lead by example in the classroom, on the court, and in the community by providing leadership for his peers to follow. He has always given 100% for his family and his teammates. It has been an honor coaching him and I'm positive he will be an asset to Cascade as well."
"Jason is a high character and quality young man who is a winner in every sense of the word," said coach Shaw. "He competes at a high level and wants to win every time he walks between the lines. I love the motor he plays with and he can score the ball in multiple ways. Every coach we talked to had nothing but great things to say about this young man. He is determined and driven to be successful in whatever he does."
