PORTLAND, Ore. - Head Coach Matt Murphy has announced the signing of Sammie Clark to a letter of intent to play basketball at Cascade College for the 2008-09 season.
Clark, a 6-0 forward, just finished her sophomore season at Mt. Hood Community College where she averaged 12.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game for coach Larry Davis.
"We are truly excited and proud for Sammie and the success that she has earned," said coach Davis. "Sammie is truly a remarkable person and athlete. Her work ethic and her ability to lead by example is what separates her from the rest of the competition. Sammie is the type of player that will do the dirty work. She won't hesitate to dive on the floor for a loose ball or step in to take a charge. It will be hard replacing her. You can't teach that type of mentality to players, it something they just do on their own. She'll be a great fit in the Cascade program."
The Thunderbirds are coming off a 15-17 season, and an appearance in the CCC tournament semi-finals. "Sammie will be a perfect addition to our program," commmented coach Murphy. "She plays basketball with passion, and will be a fantastic teammate and student."
