PORTLAND, Ore. - 1st year head coach Nels Norquist has announced the signing of Katherine Messerschmidt to a letter of intent to play volleyball for the Thunderbirds in 2008.

Messerschmidt is a 5-8 outside hitter from San Jose, California. In 2007 she played for coach Tait Rafat at San Jose City College where she averaged 2.09 kills and 1.87 digs per game. She is currently finishing her A.A. degree at SJCC and is coaching 16-1's club volleyball in the area.

"Katherine is a great addition, and will help us get our program headed in the right direction," said coach Norquist. "She has a lot of athleticism, and does many things well. I look forward to having her as a student-athlete at Cascade."
