PORTLAND, Ore. - Cascade College head women's basketball coach Matt Murphy announced today the signing of two players from Columibia Basin College - Karli Thomas and Rondelle Guthrie. Both will be transferring to Cascade this fall and be members of the 2008-09 Thunderbird team.
Thomas and Guthrie were teammates on Columbia Basin's 2007-08 NWAACC title wining team, which was the second championship in the program's history. Coached by two-time NWAACC coach of the year Cheryl Holden, the Hawks ended the season on an 18-game winning streak, and a 16-0 record against East Region opponents. The 28-3 overall mark was a school record for most wins in a season.
Prior to Columbia Basin, Karli Thomas was a three-year letter winner and all-league performer at West Valley High School in Yakima, WA. Rondelle Guthrie attended Zillah High School in Zillah, WA where she earned first team all-league, all-state, and was voted most valuable player her senior year.
"I am very excited that both Karli and Rondelle have decided to continue their education at Cascade," said coach Matt Murphy. "Both possess the passion for academics and athletics that we look for in our program."
Thomas and Guthrie add to an already stellar recruiting class in only Murphy's second year at the helm. In his first season, the T-Birds won 15 games and advanced to the conference tournament semifinals for the first time in school history.
