Portland, OR - Both the men's and women's track teams placed 5th in the season opening event at the Lewis & Clark Invitiational last Saturday.

 

There were several bright spots for the teams during the competition on a cloudy and rainy day in Portland.

Fatina Santiago heaved the shot 32 feet 4 inches for a third place finish in the shotput. She also

placed second in the discus with a throw of 93 feet 0 inches. Mindy McCullough's effort of 13 feet 8 inches in the long jump placed her 3rd in that event. The women's team as a whole finished with 36 points.

 

On the men's side, Chris Smerke dashed to a 1st place finish in the 100m with a time of 12.04. Jospeh Witzig placed 3rd in both the 800m and 1500m run. Justin Johnson won the triple jump with a distance of 38 feet 9 inches. The men's team ended the event with 69 points.
