Jon Shaw - Head Coach

Cascade College is pleased to announce that Jon Shaw has been selected as Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Coach Shaw arrives from Highland High School in Gilbert, AZ where he had been the head men’s basketball coach since 2004.

Prior to Highland, Shaw worked with one of the top Division 1 head basketball coaches in the nation, former University of Oklahoma and current Indiana University head coach, Kelvin Sampson. While in Norman, he took part in a national program that combined for a 47-18 record, received a #1 Seed in the NCAA Tournament, made an NCAA Elite Eight appearance, earned a Big 12 Tournament title, and a was ranked as high as No. 3 nationally by the Associated Press.

During his two seasons (2002-2004) as a graduate assistant, he was directly involved with the day to day operations of administrative facilitation to the program and community outreach projects, specifically the Feed the Homeless Program, Elementary School Reading Program and Special Olympics. He was extensively involved in film breakdown and editing, recruiting, and summer camp and clinic administration.

Shaw’s first head coaching job came in the fall of 1997 at Grace Academy High School in Marysville, WA. Shaw guided the Eagles to two Conference Championships, going 19-1 in conference play during a two year stretch and 4 District Playoff appearances, while posting a 52-56 record in 5 seasons (1997-2002)

Shaw also has served as an assistant coach at McClintock HS in Tempe, AZ, and The Master’s College in California.

He has extensive experience as a summer camp director and instructor. Over the years, he has coached at summer basketball camps in Indiana, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wake Forest. He is also the director of Impact Basketball Camps that began with his former teammates in the summer of 1994.

He received his degree in History from The Master’s College in 1995, and a Master's of Education in Educational Administration from The University of Oklahoma in December of 2003.

That was exactly what we were looking for here at Cascade College.”

A native of Napa, Ca, Shaw played at Vintage High School for Erik Zaidel. He went on to play two seasons (1990-92) at Napa Valley College, under former head coach Kermit Young, before transferring to play two seasons (1992-94) at The Master’s College under Mel Hankinson and Bill Oates.

He and his wife Heather are the parents of two daughters, Brooke (5) and Sarah (1), and a son, Kaden (3).
