SEATTLE, Wash. - The men's and women's track teams began the 2008 season with the Univeristy of Washington Indoor Open, with several athletes turning in solid performances.

Portland, OR - Track & Field athlete Joseph Witzig has been named a NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete for the 2007 season. This is the second time the junior from West Linn, OR has received this honor as he also received this award in cross country last fall.

To be considered for this award, students must be a junior or senior in academic standing, maintain a 3.5 grade point average, and be nominated by their head coach.

"Joseph continues to excel in all areas at Cascade," said head track coach Ryan Rouse. "He is a pleasure to coach, and a valued leader in our track program."

LaGrande, OR - The Thunderbird Track & Field wrapped up their season last weekend at the CCC Championships hosted by Eastern Oregon University.
 
With several strong individual performances, the men finished in 9th place, scoring 29.5 points for the meet. The women mustered 2 points for the weekend as several ladies just missed scoring opportunities for the team.

Tacoma, WA - Despite less than ideal conditions, several Thunderbird Track athletes set personal bests at the Pacific Lutheran Invite in Tacoma on Saturday.
 
Lucas Martin provided the highlight with a first place finish in the pole vault with a height of 13 feet 6 inches. "It was a good day for Lucas," commented coach Willie Steele. "He'd been looking much better in practice and his endurance is improving. This was a good confidence builder going forward."

Portland, OR - Both the men's and women's track teams placed 5th in the season opening event at the Lewis & Clark Invitiational last Saturday.
 
There were several bright spots for the teams during the competition on a cloudy and rainy day in Portland.
